Red Skies - Saber's Travels To School

Gryphon Heights was a relatively large city.  It was the capital after all.  Even though the monarchy and wealthy lived on the hill, the plains at the bottom boasted as much commerce and diversity as any other place.  Neighborhoods of various sizes and socioeconomic status; some of good report, some rather shady, and some downright filthy with a side of dirt.  Gryphon Heights had areas of town that specialized in specific services so even if there was an inn or temple in one area, there was clusters of like-facilities in areas on the outskirts of town.  A traveler could travel the outer rim of the city and find anything he needed without actually venturing into Gryphon Heights.  Otherwise there was the main roads filled with people, and other species of intelligence.

It was down one of these main roads that Saber road, nestled in her carriage seat.  The window curtains were drawn so she couldn't see the stores, stalls, or other buildings they passed by.  However she could hear.  The white noise of voices in various discussions.  Wagon wheels.  Neighing horses.  The arrogant bragging of a gryphon, large creatures that strutted along taking up half the street.  Others were probably out there as well.  Elves were common in the capital compared to the quieter and smaller Leurna, a being who resembled an upright lizard and was silent but helpful in the tasks they performed.  Rarer still was the Carnine, a being mistaken often for a large wolf until it Mindspoke to you.  And she was missing observing them all because of her status.  Maintaining the proper etiquette of a lady was one thing she hoped she needed worry about quite as much in her new school.

Finally the sounds faded.  The wind picked up.  The scent of grass blowing in through the edges of the curtain.  The cry of an eagle or other bird overhead.  It made staying inside the carriage all the more daunting.  Saber sighed and leaned against the side of the carriage.  Although the inside was fully cushioned, it still wasn't as comfortable as she preferred.  But monotony was taking a toll.  In no time she had fallen asleep.
